This is the third version of my website after it was first launched back in 1999. The main motivation behind redesigning the site was to make it as easy as possible to update. Although I was really happy with the way my site looked when it was first launched, it was a nightmare to update which meant that it was neglected badly and offered little for repeat visitors. However, the new design means that I can add news, diary entries, gigs, audio and video in a matter of minutes.
Finding your way around the site should hopefully be easy enough. The main menu should appear on every page on the site and any links within the page will be blue. On the news, diary and gig pages, there are also links on the right hand side of the page which will take you to specific months. At the bottom of every page you should see a search box which, for example, could be handy for finding all entries about a particular song.
If you'd like to post comments on the site then you'll need to register and log in which is very quick and easy. Your email address will only ever be used for direct messages from myself and you can even opt out of that when you register. Emails will only be sent out for significant events like the announcement of a gig or album so you don't have to be worried about receiving emails every other day. Another benefit of registering is that you will find a link to download an mp3 on the home page when you log in.
If you like the songs that you hear then you can download high quality versions of them from Scotloads which sells music from Scottish artists.
For anybody interested in the technical side of the design, I built the site using a content management system called expressionengine. For mp3s and videos I'm using Wimpy Wasp. I was tempted to make my own player but it made sense not to waste more time on that when there were solutions already available.
